SMS sender names and OTP codes with Tawked
Learn when a Saudi business needs an SMS sender ID, how Tawked names your application in OTP messages and how to connect the verification API.
Tawked is a Saudi OTP verification API. Every code goes out from Tawked's own sender ID, the message text names your reviewed application, and you pay SAR 0.09 per code sent, prepaid. So your codes need no sender name of your own. Here is when you do need one, and how codes work without it.
Why send SMS under your company name?
When a customer gets an SMS from a name they know instead of an unknown number, the sender is easier to recognize. To send your own marketing or service messages that way in Saudi Arabia, your business needs its own sender ID, registered through a licensed SMS provider. Our guide to sender names in Saudi Arabia explains the process.
The steps: from sign-up to first message
Verification codes need none of that. With Tawked it takes three simple steps:
- Create an account with a Saudi mobile number and get trial credit.
- Add your application's name and website for review. A person reviews them before live codes carry the name, and renaming the application sends it back to review.
- Send with
/v1/verify/start, then check the code with/v1/verify/check.
Every code comes from Tawked's own sender ID and reads "Your {app name} verification code is: 482913" with a second line, "via Tawked". You cannot choose or change the sender ID, and there is no sender ID application, paperwork or fee on your side.
No SMS software to install
You don't need to install any SMS software. Tawked is an online SMS service that runs entirely over the internet through an API, so you can send a verification code from your app or website with a single call.
Pricing: buy SMS credits flexibly
The pricing model is prepaid: you buy the SMS volume you need, and a send the gateway refuses, or that fails, is not charged. No contracts, no yearly subscription.
